Nasty Ice
Having a nasty ice storm here. Even the crushed rock/gravel area beside the patio is slick! Freezing rain rattling in the oaks outside. Have four charged HD marine batteries (w/12V. lights)on the porch and a trailer-load of firewood (tarped) outside the front door. So far the elect. is holding... but I think that i just heard thunder...That doesn't bode well in an ice storm. | | Thursday, January 1st, 2009 | | 12:15 am |

taggy
Cindy took Taggy to the vet Monday, after we noticed, during his spring trigger-the-shedding bath Sunday that he had a growth or rupture or prolapse near his anus. (so much hair that ya don't notice this stuff till your washing his tail, & etc.) He's home now, and has to go back in 10 days to get staples out, but seems 'perky-er' and glad to have that over with too, I'm sure. Is on antibiotics, which he thinks is okay since we follow them with treats. Cindy is off to Dallas w/Catherine tomorrow in pre-move move stuff. She'll be starting work the monday after Sat. graduation there, so trying to get some stuff lined out to make that work easier. All the 'glitches' of working out trailer hitches on a pickup we've not seen before are surfacing, ...as murphy's law would dictate. | | Thursday, March 22nd, 2007 | | 10:23 pm |

Tuesday Dump
It was a Tuesday Dump. Somewhere their calendars got mixed up. Mondays are the day for dumps. Not Tuesdays. Got to work and picked up on a project that I'd been working on Friday. Had left a letter on the Boss's desk for a proof-read. Asked him about that. He came back with good words and some additional insight that called for a re-write. Good exchange. Went to a sales rep's expose'/demo on a new fire hydrant that is being considered. Took about an hour. Then had a call from drafting co-worker who had a task to print out a bunch of PDF files of drawings for the guy who signs our time sheets. He was having problems...and looking for solutions, so I said I'd be right over to do what I could. (he's helped me back a bunch before.) Spent some hours with him working that out...to 'some' avial. Wasted a tree or two with him. Suggested that he send me a copy of the stuff that he wanted to print out, as I had updated software for it. (and feel better about exploring from my own desk). Back to the desk and before I could sit down, engineering co-worker passed off to me something he'd received that I'd worked on before for him. Then three engineers converge on the cubicle with stuff to dump. There have been times in my younger life when I'd have stressed out a bunch on this situation. But with many such episodes behind me, I just commented that 'my plate has gotten really full really fast here, hasn't it?' and chuckled. It's that chuckle that helps. It helps to put things into perspective about their expectations. In prior times I might have blown up, or stressed out, then gotten defensive. But a bit of calm discussion helped put it all into a workable workload...and I was able to still help out with the drafting coworker, and move forward on the engineer's projects in a decent timeline. Nice to get a 'you da man' email from the drafting coworker yet too when I was able to print things out, and then pass on some pointers for him. Life is good at 55. Only sometimes would it be nice to be younger. the rest of the time it's nice to have this experience under my belt. | | Sunday, July 16th, 2006 | | 11:43 am |
grey hair
"the 4 or 5 first greys have appeared" You, my dear, are a dirty bastard. By the time I'm your age, I will have a full head of gray hair. I started getting my first few grays around my 21st birthday. kamalea 2006-07-16 01:47 pm UTC (link) Ah, yes. But you have the gorgeous skin color, the perfect smattering of freckles, and the lovely dark, thick hair that makes you actually look like you belong to your parents. ;) And when you go grey it'll look distinguished. I have a feeling mine's going to look ... dirty! :) I think that both of my kids are conspiring to make me feel really old...and need to just shut up about grey hairs!! Need I remind each of them of how long I've dealt with the 'green mustache'?? Both of you! Just be glad that you HAVE hair!! ;) ...and kids of your own who will someday conspire to make YOU feel old :0) | | Thursday, June 22nd, 2006 | | 9:25 pm |

they shoulda made a TV renovation show for us
it would have been a hoot. assuming that the old pipes lived regular lives. assuming that if we take out the garbage disposal that all would be well not well dishwasher is hooked into the disposal damn got that figured out then went to replace all that and get it hooked up right then find out that the freakin "trap" (s-hook pipe) was so freakin' rotten that we could have had a MAJOR FLOOD in kitchen and the only reason we noticed it was because we replaced it it was a disaster waiting to happen so...there's something to be said for kharma but still don't have water in the kitchen tomorrow's another day I actaully considered taking the "trap" outta the extra bathroom just to be "finished" with this kitchen stuff....fortunatley don talked me outta that i'm desperate but will be okay :) | | Saturday, June 17th, 2006 | | 12:42 am |
Kenowick man
Doubt that I spelled that right. But it's the ancient guy that they've determined was killed on a mountain, and then frozen by the altitude...preserved for all science to study to oblivion. They've analysed the contents of his stomach to determine what he last ate, and thereby where he might have 'come from'. They've done forensics to determine the angle of penetration of the arrow that killed him. Suppose some day they'll decide to do a clone of his DNA to see what a living specimen would look like. 5000 years from now, won't they have a hay day in our cemetaries? All those bones with little conical shaped pieces of copper-clad lead laying amongst them? Or traces of odd chemicals not found in nature? What do you suppose they will make of the mix of DNA that could result from organ transplants, etc. (Well, ...I guess most of that would be decayed, but who knows what science will come up with by then). Unless one dies on a frozen mountaintop somewhere.... Do you suppose that he signed some form to give his body to science? I don't think that I'll be too concerned about it. I plan to leave them very little to study. | | Thursday, June 8th, 2006 | | 9:21 pm |

From C: From someone who "lived" the 80's 1) Favourite movie of the 1980s? Breakfast Club (seriously, remains one of my favs). Mad Max (ditto, even with the whacky followups). Caddyshack (not so serioulsy, i'm really sorry, but I liked it!) Private Bejamin (not so seriously again, but another Bill Murry fiasco that grossed the among the most that year...but it was fun...at least i remember it was :) Breaker Morant 2) Favourite musician/group of the 1980s? Blondie Pink Floyd Pat Benetar Bob Seeger Flock of Seagulls Men at Work Anything by Micheal Jackson (BAAAAAAAAADDDDDD) 3) Favourite TV show of the 1980s? Hill Street Blues MASH 4) Favourite invention of the 1980s? supposedly MS-DOS was invented in 1981 and while i can't figure when they were invented, cabbage patch dolls were introduced in 1983 (i played the whacked out mom getting a cabbage patch dolls a couple of years later for my new daughter...whacked out, really!) supposedly the first 3-d video game was invented/introd in 1987 doppler radar was invented by Christian Andreas in 1988 and finally, ProZac was invented by Ray Fuller/Eli Lilly Company 5) World Event from the 1980s that stands out in your mind? here's what one website "entitled" each year: 1980 (The year of Dallas) 1981 (The year of the Pac-Man) 1982 (The year of the Thriller) 1983 (The year of the Cabbage Patch doll) 1984 (The year of the Cosby Show) 1985 (The year of the benefit concerts) 1986 (The year of disasters) 1987 (The year of the baby) 1988 (The year of the CD) 1989 (The year of the Fall of the Wall) what did I think most important? the fall of the wall, obviously (even tho we're trying to put one up now). bobby mcferrin tells everyone to be happy, don't worry :) sonny bono becomes mayor of palm springs (such drival). human genome project begins (scary, but not, but scary). and finally, Supreme Court case, California v. Greenwood, tested the Bill of Rights 4th Amendment, addressing search and seizure in trash. watch what you toss. | | Sunday, May 14th, 2006 | | 11:05 pm |
Mothers
Is this a reasonable means to use to express my appreciation and admiration to the mother's of my GRANDCHILDREN on Mother's Day? I hope so. It's hard work. I'm sure there are/will be times that there seems to be little acknowledgement of your efforts. I admire and respect you both for what you do. Happy Mother's Day. | | Tuesday, May 9th, 2006 | | 7:00 pm |

safe
Apparently we've had a near miss of a tornado this evening. Weather reports are saying it was on the ground and followed along HWY 62 pretty much at least in our part of the county. No damage here (at least that we can see in the dark). Just a lot of wind here at our place. Could be an interesting trip to work in the morning though. |
